Persuasive Writing - Term 3 Week 5

WALT persuade other students to agree with our opinion.  This the purpose for my writing.   

Success Criteria:

1. I plan for a writing task;
2. I write a variety of sentence lengths with different sentence starters
3. Give reasons with detail - use specific words
4. I write most topic and high frequency words correctly.
5. I use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks correctly.
6. Use persuasive language

Dogs make better pets than cats

In my opinion I think dogs make better pets than cats.

First, dogs can do a lot more tricks than cats because dogs can jump up and they can go get the paper for you and dogs bark at robbers if they come on to your lawn.  Some dogs could maybe clean up and dogs are faster than cats but cats just lie around all day.

Another point is that dogs can help people like they can guide blind people. They can help police at the airport to see if the people have bought drugs from overseas.  On some programs dogs help the airport staff sniff out the drugs and when they have found the drugs they sit down and the police come.

Finally, dogs are more playful than cats because dogs play with you a lot more than cats.  Dogs can play games with you like you could try and catch the dog or play tag and you can run around with the dog.   But cats are quite lazy and all they do is lie around in the sun all day.

Therefore I believe that dogs make better pets than cats.   

Country life is better than City life - Term 3 Week 4

Country life is better than city life

 

I strongly believe that country life is better than city life.

First the country has more room so that you can play tag and hide and seek and lots of other games.  But in the city you just have a backyard that is usually 20 metres.  Furthermore there are lots of forests to play in but in the city there are hardly any forests.

Another reason is In the country you are more healthy but in the city there is lots of cars that drive around and make the air dirty.  Also there are more trees in the country that make the air clean.

Finally the country has more room to build stuff like tree huts in the forest and you can put up the tent and camp outside.  There are lots of stuff to build in the country because there is lots of wood to build things.                                                                                                   

Therefore that is why I believe country life is better than city life.

                                                                                                                                              

Skimming Reading Strategy - Term 3 Week 2

Skimming Reading Strategy

WALT skim an unknown text so that we can QUICKLY get an understanding of it.

• I can decide if a book has useful information I need, or whether I want to read it for pleasure.

These are the things I can do to skim read

1. look at the blurb.
2. look at the pictures.
3. find the key words.
4. look at the title.
5. read the first page to see if you like the book.
